In this article: a €200 bank bonus, a 75 GB phone plan for €8.40/month, 20% off supplements, and free pizza. Plus, if you're expecting or have a baby under one, I gathered a list of all the free welcome gifts that drugstores and supermarkets want to give you.

👶 Tip of the Week: Free Welcome Gifts from Baby Clubs

If you’re expecting or have a baby under one, it’s worth spending an evening signing up for baby clubs. Most big drugstore and supermarket chains in Germany run one, they’re free, and most of them come with an actual welcome gift on top of the usual coupons. You can join all of them at once, and several give you a second gift if you sign up during pregnancy.

  • Rossmann babywelt: a Vorfreude-Tasche if you sign up during pregnancy and a Kleine Wunder-Box after the birth, both collected in store with a coupon from the ROSSMANN app. Recent boxes included things like a toiletry bag, baby socks, a cuddle cloth and samples.

  • dm glückskind: a pregnancy gift (recently a nursing scarf or a diaper bag) and a glückskind-Köfferchen after the birth, as long as you register your baby before their first birthday. The pickup coupons appear in the Mein dm app.

  • Müller meinBaby: a diaper case with free products, samples and a coupon booklet with a shopping voucher, sent by post after the birth.

  • Kaufland FamilienMomente: a baby box with a hooded towel and care products, sent by post if you sign up during pregnancy or before your baby is three months old.

  • Lidl Babyboxen: a welcome package or a Lidl voucher by post, set up in the Lidl Plus app under Profile. You need to confirm the birth within three months to get it.

  • budni Mein Baby: a welcome bag with a muslin cloth and budni products, a coupon for free Hello World diapers, wipes or care oil, and double points on baby products. It’s only open to the Berlin and Hamburg areas, and you can sign up any time from pregnancy until your baby is 18 months old.

  • HiPP Mein BabyClub: a pregnancy package with a cover for your baby’s checkup booklet, care oil and wipes, then a baby package with a first spoon, a porridge sample and an organic cotton cloth.

Kaufland and Lidl tie their gifts to the first three months and dm to the first year, while Rossmann doesn’t spell out its box deadline clearly, so it’s best to sign up while you or your partner is pregnant or right after the birth. Since these are marketing programs, you’ll likely end up subscribed to their newsletters along the way, but they’re usually easy to unsubscribe from.

💶 €200 Welcome Bonus from norisbank

norisbank*, Deutsche Bank's online bank, is giving new customers €200 for opening a Top-Girokonto current account online. To qualify, you need to open the Top-Zinskonto savings account in the same application and keep both accounts for at least 12 months. The offer is open to anyone who hasn't been a norisbank customer in the past 12 months.

The current account is free if you're 29 or younger or have at least €500 coming in each month; otherwise it costs €3.90 a month. The €500 condition is very easy to fulfill: I have an account with the same kind of requirement, and I just set up a monthly automatic transfer from my other account, so there's no need to move your salary.

The account comes with a free Mastercard debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Wero, and you can withdraw cash for free at any ATM in Germany or abroad as long as you take out €50 or more. The savings account pays 2.5% interest, so whatever you keep there during that year earns something. €200 is on the higher end for a free account, so I highly recommend taking advantage of this offer. 📱 75 GB a Month from Lyca Mobile for €8.40

Phone plan prices in Germany keep sliding further and further, and this International Plus M yearly plan from Lyca Mobile* is one of the cheapest I've seen so far. You get 900 GB of data for 360 days, credited as 75 GB every 30 days. It also includes unlimited calls and texts within Germany, 500 international minutes to 100 countries and 31 GB of EU roaming.

The plan is a one-time payment for all 12 months, not a monthly subscription. The full price for the year is €239.88, and the offer page currently has it at €168. If you enter code LYCA-M (advertisement) at checkout, another 40% comes off, so you pay €100.80 for the whole year. That's €8.40 a month, or €0.11 per GB – a great deal, if you ask me.

If you're not sure whether your current plan is still a good deal, divide what you pay each month by the gigabytes you get. If it comes to more than €0.20 per GB, it's time to switch. Get the Lyca yearly plan here*.

I don't subscribe to the notion that a drink can replace lunch, but it's quite nutritious nevertheless.
